Have you recently started working from home and feel like you’re in the dark when it comes to how do people make money effectively using their smartphones and laptops, just by sitting in their homes with their pajamas on?
Been there!
When I started working online not too long ago, I wanted to see if I could make money as a typical work-at-home young person, using typical ways to make money online.
Although I had some fails, from which I figured out the things that really matter when it comes to working from home.
I want that for you, WAHites!
To help you achieve your WAH goals, I want to share with you some WAH truths that I’ve learned on this online journey. Some might say they are shocking, ugly, and harsh truths about working from home…and they are right.
Not many new WAHites – including me at the time – know about these work-from-home truths.
But, I want to help you succeed, so here are my work-from-home truths from one year of consistently working from home.
Truths About Working From Home
1. You Don’t Need to Over Work Yourself Very Often
@upsplash |
Yeah…
I know many newbies try to go over and beyond on the first day or weeks of working online, maybe to impress clients or the employer.
And, that’s simply not cool.
How can you possibly work the whole day with no form of breaks or time-outs?
What if you "lose" your clients on that first day of work?
No one actually knows how things will go on for them, but surely everyone will have a plan – right down to the 10 things they will do upon successful closure of deal with a client – on the exact amount they want to be paid from the services been rendered.
But, just because you work from home, doesn't mean that you won't have headaches or discomforts.
So, I say, start working from home with the mindset of taking breaks at intervals:
Long showers
Drink a coffee
Take a walk
Or,
Visit a cafe
Watch a movie
Take a nap
Or,
Yoga
Make some recipes
Organize your closet
The list can go on and on.
So, don't think working out your ass during the day will secure you all the money you hope to acquire during that time!
Just know this – don’t focus too on work, if you don’t have a clear source of income yer. Pick a few, some breaks, and then work! 🙂
2. Take Your Time Learning Productivity
@upsplash |
Another thing a lot of successful WAHites stress to newbies – is to get those distractions off you ASAP!
Not so fast!
I just started working from home. I’m not really good at making the most of my time. I can’t complete one task or even handle one client in a day!!!
*me as a newbie learning to work from home!
I know how challenging working from home could be at first instance.
I didn’t nail those tasks or projects when I first started working online. It took me months before I could get my sh*t together.
So, don’t spend days getting upset with yourself if this is how you feel.
Because it is totally worth it to complete a task, project, or make your first $10 in a week than making $100 yet lose your sanity.
Learning how to be productive rather than just working for money, will help you know exactly how to work effectively from home and online.
So, invest your mind in learning productivity when it comes to you working from home like:
Flexibility
High-speed internet
Productivity apps e. g. Alexa, Trello
Meal order programs
Tax awareness
Booking a pet sitter
3. Only a Handful of Services Are In Demand
It's a secret but that's true!
Both big and small companies, individuals, and other successful sites out there are only in need of a handful of freelancers who are good at what they do.
So, despite being good at so many things at once doesn't mean that you will be efficient on all of them.
Thus, think about services that you can offer and streamline your effort into them.
For example, not every online business owner is good with email marketing or creating blog content for their products, you can maximize in such area and still make a lot of money.
So, if you are feeling that you have to be good at so many things before you can comfortably work from home, then don't be surprised that you may be wasting a lot of your time.
Just be good at something, and then diversify to other things as you progress further working from home or wherever you are.
4. You Need to Network to Succeed
@upsplash |
You may not hear this all the time from those are really do well working from home.
Because that's the secret!
The idea of networking is so as to collaborate with other freelancers you can benefit from. That's is why it's important for people who offer a service online to network.
So, as a newbie working from home for the first time, don't be shy to follow other freelancers online you actually admire.
Be a part of their Facebook page, support their YouTube channel by subscribing to it and follow up on their emails.
This form of outreach is what can make you successful working from home. Having fellow freelancers who can confidently refer people that need your services straight up to you is all you need!
