Are you a makeup beginner girl looking for the full steps of applying makeup or are you trying to figure out your own makeup journey, personality, and taste as a starter in the world of making up?
Maybe
you are already a pro makeup girl - loving it! - but you still crave for more
other than just applying concealers, cleaning spilled makeups, or changing
makeup products.

totally ok to want to be more than just the girl who does makeup, has good
looks, and stays pretty all day long!
And
you know why?
Because
being a spec, a makeup lover, and a girl at the same time are HARD!
Unlike guys who don't really care about their skincare routines.
So, I had to ask our guest, a Nigerian-based professional makeup artist, Celina Nongo, CEO of- Touch of Lina about the simplest makeup routine she applies and all the unexpected items in her makeup kit that she uses while in college to save her sanity.
I would have never realized it until now, her tactics were totally relatable and worth
trying out!
Another awnn moment
we had was when she speaks about her journey- becoming a branded makeup
artist despite being a college student!. Like, there's just so much information to get you
motivated and started.
As
she would always say that:
''She
is a girl that always believes that less is more both at home, in college, and even while running a booming makeup business! ''
If
you are a girl who loves makeup and other makeup relate talks like routines, order, tools, tricks, products, and even career tips then you probably don't want to miss out on
every bit and chunks our expert has to say about all of that!
Just
use the link to hover straight up to the conversation that gets you.

Over
to you, Celina...
1.) Is It Make Up or Makeup?
Celina: Whatever you choose to call it, glam up, cover-up, makeup, makeover am in for all of it!
Raise your hand if you feel you are not looking your best
even in all your new makeup tricks and tactics?
You have a stain in your work or
college outfit, your acne or dark spots are still obvious, your hair is still in a ponytail and you still need an online foundation tool to determine what shade
is good for you or to cross-check the coverage you already made on your face.
Okay. Maybe that was a little bit
specific, but you know what I mean, right?
Trying
to get the perfect makeup look is not supposed to be A-DAY'S-JOB I
must confess, especially if you are a makeup beginner girl.
And
yes, even as a professional makeup artist and college student, I do have a
timer that goes off whenever am doing too much 🙂 It's totally crazy in the morning, especially when I need to
meet up with morning lectures.
About my simplest makeup routine, which every
beginner makeup girl and even pro should try out, I will just throw more
light on that under the routine section, in question 6 so keep your
ears wide open (did I say ears!) ... eyes I mean ladies!
So, make up or makeup is simply a
way we ladies paint our full-face to look our full best, right girls?
2.) What Products Do I Need For A Full Face Of Makeup Like This One?
Concealer
Foundation
Eyebrow pencil
Mascara
Eyeliner
Lipstick palette
Beauty blender sponge
Quality brushes
Highlighters / Blush
Eye shadow palette
Loose setting powder/setting spray
Makeup remover
P.S: You don't need to actually break the bank to do a full face make-over!
A little bit of tactics that you will get to discover at the end of the post is all you need to achieve that.
3.) What Does Makeup Mean To You Apart From Being A Professional Makeup Artist?
Celina: Okay. I do feel that my love for doing makeup did not stem from me becoming a makeup artist at first but it actually became more real to me as a person after that.
It can be as early as 4 a.m in the
morning, then as a young girl in high school and am already figuring out on my
bed what color of lip gloss to try out!
Lipgloss is actually one of my favorite everyday makeup products for all occasions!
So, makeup to me then and even now
is simply a way to not only look attractive, pretty, and approachable but
confident as well.
Now that am already into the life of
being a makeup artist, there are days when I don't feel inclined to put on any
makeup at all, even when attending to a client. And I guess it also happens to
you at times?
4.) What Are Your Everyday Makeup Products As A College Student?
Celina: I personally don't like much of a heavy makeup look while being in class but I sometimes opt-in for it for special occasions like weddings.
But that's not all,
I would rather go for a lighter makeup look which will give me more flexibility and confidence without making a comic of myself in front of my coursemates.
The products I listed earlier in question 2 above are a glimpse of what I basically use as a college student.
I don't actually use all of them and as I love to say less is more!
5.)
What Is A Basic Makeup Process
Celina: Before I give my thoughts on what a basic makeup
process is like, I want you to take a moment and really acknowledge the fact
that you are beautifully and wonderfully made by GOD!
Maybe we often forget it and go over
and beyond just to look the way we want at all costs. But I bet that you are
more beautiful than you can ever imagine- blemishes or not.
So, a basic makeup process encompasses everything from:
Deciding what makeup look to create,
What complexion based products to use and,
The order of applying the makeup.
But here's my opinion to answer some of the confusing questions you ask about a basic makeup process:
A.) What Makeup Goes Up First?
Before you say you have successfully applied makeup on your face, you have got to ensure that your makeup has a longer staying power.
Which is what you actually want, right? You don't want makeup that is loose and runny when you are already out for the day, that would be a total embarrassment!
So, choose the way you want to start based on the look you want to create.
Pro tip: There is actually no right or wrong way to apply the first makeup product.
Whether foundation first or concealer next, which depends on where you need more coverage, or doing the eye makeup first before the foundation comes in, all have their own advantages which you will come to understand in a little while!
So Does Concealer Go On Or Before The Foundation? What's Your Opinion?
Celina: Okay. Like I said earlier, using a foundation alongside a concealer depends on coverage because of the dark areas, pigmentations, and importantly the skin area of the eye, all of which need coverage.
Here's the trick,
If you apply the concealer first you may end up with a heavy makeup look because the concealer may move once you start to apply the foundation afterward, thus you will need to apply more product to set the makeup well on the face. And you probably want to avoid this at all cost, right?
Pro tip: For the under the eye area, what I do is to mix both the foundation and concealer into a consistency that will fit well.
B.) What Is The Order You Put Makeup On?
There's actually no strict makeup order every makeup artist, seasoned makeup pro or absolute beginner girl should follow.
What I do know is that the order you put on makeup depends on the look you actually want to create (makeup concept).
So, to this, I say if you are a complete beginner just follow the steps in question 6 to apply your first makeup.
C.) What Do I Need For A Basic Makeup Routine?
All that you need for a basic makeup routine both in the morning or in the evening are solely complexion-based products.
And here's a quicker glance at most of the basics:
For Eye Makeup:
Face mists
Eye patches
Eyeliners
Eye shadows
Mascara
Eyeliner Primer
6.) How to Apply Makeup Step By Step For Beginners
I.) Cleanse up Face with Wipes or Face Mist
Pros: Doing this will ensure face skin is prepped and free from face dirt that could obscure the outcome of the makeup.
Cons: Makeup may not last as expected.
II.) Fill the Eyebrows
Pros: This shapes the face as the eye area is now defined.
Cons: Eye makeup accidents e.g. eye shadow falling unto already applied face makeup may be hard to correct.
Pro tips: Use eye patches while applying eye makeup to trap any drop of eyeshadow from entering the eye.
Also, even if the eye makeup falls, you don't need to worry about re-applying the face makeup that is why doing the eye makeup first before the face makeup is an efficient makeup order.
III.) Prime Face (Eyelids Inclusive!)
Optional but a pretty skincare routine I personally use to set up a canvas-ready face before applying makeup.
Cons: Helps the foundation to glow.
Pros: The skin may be dehydrated and the foundation may not set in well.
Pro tips: Priming the eyelids makes eye shadow last for long without creasing.
IV.) Apply Foundation
V.) Use Concealer For More Coverage
VI.) Add Pop Of Color To High Points of The Face (Cheeks, Chin, Temple)
Sometimes I use both blush or highlighters and step 8 together or I interchange them to suit my makeup look.
Pro tip: Apply highlighters, blush, and bronzer on the high point of the face like the chin, cheek, side of the nose, and mouth.
VII.) Yummy Lipstick Or Lipgloss!
I love lip glosses right from when I was in high school. So, most of the time I base my look on a particular lipstick color!
And like I mentioned earlier, there's actually no right or wrong makeup order. For me, I love to apply lipgloss before applying step 8.
VIII.) Loose Setting Powder
Certainly the last makeup order for me but not least as without these babies my makeup would not last long for the entire day of me running around on campus!
Pros: Protects face makeup from excessive glow and movement.
Cons: Makeup may not last as expected.
Pro tip: Try night-setting spray if you want to carry a set of makeup overnight.
7.) What Items Should Be In A Makeup Kit For College Girls?
All the essential makeup items and products you really need to possess in your makeup kit or box are already listed in questions 2 and 5C!
But that's not all,
Below are other makeup essentials I can't live without on campus a.k.a makeup organization kits:

10.) How Do You Become A Makeup Artist From Home?
Well, like I mentioned earlier I love lipgloss and this I think made my love for cosmetics, and makeup in general to blossom.
Since am already a full-time college student, I didn't consider going to a makeup school instead I received most of my training from a makeup counter in my community.
And you know what?
After that, I promoted myself as a brand, with that I was able to land wholesome jobs from coursemates, and other potential clients which have really taken my skill and proficiency in doing makeup to the next level.
So, these are the processes I had to go through and you too can, it's 100% achievable in less than 2 years!
But if you are considering going to a makeup school then I suggest you consider doing some research online about the available ones in your state.
P.S: Don't forget to look out for the cost and all the requirements as well!
